How Much Time Does Training Take?

At Skybound Aviation, each flight lesson is typically scheduled for 2.5 hours. Our lessons are organized into set blocks throughout the day:

  • 7:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

  • 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

  • 12:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

  • 2:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  • 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

When planning your schedule, allow time for your commute plus the full 2.5-hour lesson block. Some lessons may take a little more or less time depending on where you are in the training syllabus.

How Much Time Should I Study Outside of Flight Lessons?

We recommend dedicating about 5–7 hours per week to learning outside of the flight school. This can include:

  • Completing your online ground school

  • Watching training videos

  • Reviewing resources from your flight instructor

  • Studying material from previous lessons

  • Preparing for your FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test

The more prepared you are before each lesson, the more valuable your time with your instructor becomes. Reviewing what you have learned also helps you retain information instead of spending future lessons relearning previous material.

The Bottom Line

Plan for 2.5 hours for each flight lesson, plus your commute. Outside of Skybound, try to dedicate another 45–60 minutes per day to studying and preparing.

Consistent flying and consistent studying are two of the best ways to make your flight training more efficient and continue making progress toward your private pilot license.
