Two factors can have a major impact on both the time and money you spend on training:

Consistency and Immersion.

1. Consistency

Consistency means flying as often as possible.

Ideally, aim to fly 3–4 days per week. The more consistently you train, the easier it is to retain what you learned during your previous lesson and continue progressing.

If you fly fewer than twice per week, part of each lesson may need to be spent reviewing or relearning material from the previous lesson. Flying consistently reduces that repetition and allows you to keep moving forward.

Choosing a Flight School That Supports Consistency

When choosing a flight school, consider two important resources:

Instructor availability: A school may have plenty of students, but if there aren't enough instructors, scheduling can become difficult.

Aircraft availability: Every flight school experiences aircraft maintenance. Regular inspections and maintenance are a necessary part of keeping aircraft safe.

Look for a school with more than enough instructors and aircraft that normal scheduling challenges or maintenance do not repeatedly disrupt your training.

2. Immersion

Immersion is about how involved you are in learning outside of your scheduled lessons.

Ask yourself:

Do you truly enjoy flying and learning about aviation?

In your free time, do you watch videos or study topics related to learning to fly?

When your instructor assigns homework, do you actually complete it?

Do you use the resources your instructor or flight school provides?

Or do you only learn while you're sitting with an instructor?

If all of your learning happens while you're paying for an instructor's time, training will generally take more time and more money.

Using the resources available to you and continuing to learn between lessons allows you to arrive better prepared and progress through training with far less resistance.
